Weight Management: The Week Before Thanksgiving
Weight Management the Week Before Thanksgiving
For some of us, just thinking about the holidays makes us feel like we’ve gained 5 pounds! Add to that the stress of trying to figure out what to eat before and after a big meal, and overeating is almost a given. But it doesn’t have to be! Just follow our quick day-by-day eating guide, and feel no worries as you eat to your heart’s content on Thursday!
Friday – Sunday: You shouldn’t worry about “dieting” the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before Thanksgiving. Crash diets almost always end up making you hungrier later in the week, and this is not the week to feel hungry – if you’re looking to maintain or lose weight. Eat for nourishment, and you may find your cravings kicked to the curb!
Foods for energy: water, cucumbers, almonds, dark chocolate, green tea
Monday: The Monday before Thanksgiving can and should be a normal food day. As long as you get your nutrients in (through leafy greens, legumes, whole grains, etc.), practice portion control, and keep hydrated, you’ll have nothing to worry about in terms of preparing your body for holiday feasting.
Foods to snack on throughout the day: carrots, celery, quinoa, blueberries, pomegranate seeds
Tuesday: It’s two days until Thanksgiving, and just thinking about Ma’s stuffing makes your mouth water. Combine that with the pride you feel after sticking to only healthy foods yesterday, and you’ll probably end up consuming that chocolate bar you’ve been eyeing – but were saving for Thursday. No problem! We all deserve a little sweetness! Just remember that food is nourishment – even chocolate! Savor the sweet, refrain from overindulging, and rest easy!
Foods to keep you focused: leafy greens, coconut water, apples, fish, black beans, chia seeds
Wednesday: It’s the home stretch, people! Believe it or not, what you eat today and tomorrow can mean the difference between gaining a pound or two! As long as you maintain your exercise routine and eat relatively light today (of course, never go hungry – we believe that eating can be just as important as taking medicine, if not more so) you can eat your heart out tomorrow, without stressing too much over weight management!
Foods known to curb hunger: pumpkin seeds, nuts, oats, cinnamon, spicy foods, grapefruit
Turkey Day – Gobble down that feast!
Foods for a restful sleep: Turkey, peanut butter, milk, Greek yogurt, cherries, bananas
