5 Calming Foods That Will Help You Fall Asleep

If you are looking for foods that will help you fall asleep, look no further! Here, I’ve curated a list of the most delectable and sleep-inducing foods that you can find in your own kitchen.

Peanut Butter

Peanuts contain niacin (Vitamin B3), which contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help regulate digestion and metabolism, and even boost brain health. All of these effects can easily translate to calmer internal systems and a more peaceful state of mind. For a better sleep, try a spoonful of all-natural peanut butter before bed!

Cherries

Tart cherries contain high levels of melatonin, which helps balance your sleep/wake cycle! (One of the biggest causes attributed to difficulty sleeping is an imbalance of your body’s internal clock – which you could be experiencing if you go to bed at different times every night.) If you need more zzz’s, try a glass of tart cherry juice.

Bananas

Bananas are a double whammy of anti-inflammatory and calming factors: they contain Vitamin B6 (which is needed to produce higher levels of melatonin – see #2, above), and tryptophan (which produces serotonin, a known sleep aid). Snacking on a banana before bed is one of your best bets for a good sleep!

Milk

While there isn’t any hard proof that a glass of milk before bed will deliver a restful sleep, it is widely known that milk contains levels of tryptophan (which, as it does for bananas, puts milk on our list!). Milk before bed, sprinkled with cinnamon (see #5!) may be just what you need to sleep!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon sticksCinnamon is often thought of simply as flavoring, but it is so much more! Cinnamon is a powerful antioxidant, and added to hot milk, can help warm the body and prepare it for sleep. The fact that it tastes amazing is an added bonus!
